Network Systems and Support
Network Systems and Support (NSS) provides support to 110 remote locations for Austin ISD's wide and local area network systems, telephone and public address systems, campus wiring, workstations, network applications, and the Greater Austin Area Telecommunications Network (GAATN). NSS is also involved in a number of special technology projects including the Distance Learning project. NSS is divided into 4 groups: Local Area Network - performs configuration, repair, maintenance, security, and upgrades associated with the approximately 500 servers installed throughout the District. This group also supports the Lotus Notes email and the District's student information system. Wide Area Network - supports the GAATN network and 2000 Cisco ATM and Ethernet switches. The GAATN network consists of approximately 300 miles of fiber optic cable installed throughout Austin. Every campus is connected to GAATN. Telecom - provides software configuration and hardware support for the District's 112 PBX systems and PA systems. They also provide daily operational support for voicemail, 10,000 telephone handsets and 40,000 ethernet cable drops. Desktop Support - performs hardware and software maintenance and support on District desktop computers, printers, and other peripheral devices. |
